Watford’s River Colne festival brought the community together for fun, learning, and a shared love for nature and the environment
Watford: The River Colne Community Festival was a hit! It took place at the Wellspring Church Centre, where locals and visitors gathered to celebrate the river.
This event was a team effort, organized with Watford Council and several partners. The goal? To connect people with nature and encourage them to help protect the river for the future.
Watford’s mayor, Peter Taylor, expressed his excitement, saying it was wonderful to see everyone come together for the River Colne. He highlighted the importance of the work done to keep the river clean.
Last Saturday was filled with smiles as the community enjoyed the festival. Peter noted that events like this show how collaboration can inspire action to safeguard our environment.
Councillor Ian Stotesbury also chimed in, emphasizing the River Colne’s significance to the local ecosystem. He praised the festival for showcasing the hard work of volunteers and organizations dedicated to its preservation.
The free event offered a variety of activities, including discussions with river experts, hands-on riverfly sampling, and guided walks. There were even “Ask Me Anything” sessions with environmental advocates.
Sam Harbour from Groundwork East said the festival was a perfect way to celebrate the ongoing restoration efforts for the River Colne. It brought together project partners, volunteers, and the community, all eager to enjoy the outdoors.
