Well Walk Theatre in Hampstead has been awarded Best Building, showcasing its unique charm and dedication to family-friendly productions
London: The Well Walk Theatre in Hampstead just snagged the Best Building award at a recent ceremony. This event, held at The Royal Opera House, celebrates the best in UK theatre.
In the Theatre Building of the Year category, the Well Walk Theatre stood out. It’s a cozy 50-seat puppet theatre that opened last September, and it’s already making waves.
Judges praised the theatre for its charm and focus on family shows, magic acts, and silent films. They called it “small but perfectly formed,” which is quite the compliment!
Owners Zina Drouche and Dylan McNeil have crafted a fantastic lineup of productions that appeal to both kids and adults. They’ve really tapped into a special niche that many others overlook.
Housed in a former pottery shop, the theatre has been beautifully restored. It features a café and bookshop, all while honoring its Victorian roots and the legacy of magician Georges Méliès.
Dylan shared his excitement with the Ham&High, saying that winning this award is a huge boost for their small team. It’s a testament to their hard work and passion.
Other awards went to Richmond’s Orange Tree Theatre and Nottingham Playhouse for Theatre of the Year, while Michael Harrison Entertainment took home Producer of the Year.
It’s great to see such a variety of talent being recognized, from small venues to big productions. The Stage editor highlighted the creativity and resilience of the industry, which is truly inspiring.
