Welling United’s tough week continues with a loss to Boreham Wood, marking their third defeat in a row in the National League South
Manager Rod Stringer made a slight change, bringing in Chiori Johnson to help strengthen the defense. They were up against a strong Boreham Wood side, who had previously beaten them 6-0.
Playing their fourth match in just 11 days didn’t help either. Welling struggled to keep up with the visitors, who had a much larger squad and were fresher.
In the first half, Welling had a few chances but couldn’t find the back of the net. Femi Ilesanmi and Matt Rush both missed opportunities, and it felt like the game was slipping away.
Welling’s goalkeeper, Dylan Berry, made some great saves to keep them in the game, but it was clear they were on the back foot. After halftime, they had a brief moment of hope with a header that went just over.
But soon after, Boreham Wood broke through. Berry made a fantastic save, but he couldn’t stop Appiah from scoring. Welling tried to fight back, but nothing seemed to work.
With 25 minutes left, the game settled down, and Boreham Wood managed the clock well. Stringer will be relieved to have a midweek break to let his players recover before their next match against Weston-super-Mare.
