Exciting news! West Yorkshire has revealed its new Young Poet Laureates, Max and Ayeshah, who will inspire creativity in their peers.
Bradford: So, guess what? West Yorkshire just announced its new Young Poet Laureates! Max from Pontefract and Ayeshah from Calderdale are the lucky winners. They really stood out in a competition that had tons of entries from kids in school years four to nine.
This whole thing kicked off back in October when the National Literacy Trust launched the program. They got professional poets to team up with teachers, helping kids tap into their creative side. It’s all about showing how writing can open doors for them.
Max won the younger category with a fun poem about his mum’s Amazon deliveries, while Ayeshah impressed everyone with her piece called ‘Primadonna.’ Pretty cool, right?
These two will take over from the first-ever laureates, Alina and Isabelle, who have been amazing ambassadors for young talent in the area. They’ve performed at some big events, like the Convention of the North and the BBC’s poetry festival.
Ms. Brabin, the mayor, praised Alina and Isabelle for their work and expressed excitement for Max and Ayeshah to follow in their footsteps. She believes West Yorkshire is full of talent and opportunities for young people.
Sharena Lee Satti from the National Literacy Trust also chimed in, saying that writing for fun among kids is at a low point. They want to change that and help kids rediscover the joy of writing through poetry.
Max and Ayeshah will now serve as the second cohort of Young Poet Laureates, inspiring their peers to pick up a pen and give poetry a shot. They were officially appointed at a celebration event in Bradford on January 26. How awesome is that?
