A local music venue feels cheated after not receiving payment from filmmakers who used their space for a recent production
Thornton Hough: The Thornton Hough Village Club and Bar was buzzing last year when it served as a set for the film Fackham Hall. The crew used it as a green room and changing area for about eight days.
This film, written by comedian Jimmy Carr and featuring Damian Lewis, is a spoof that’s been compared to Downton Abbey and classic comedies like Airplane! It filmed in various spots around the village, including Thornton Hall and St George’s Church.
But things took a turn when reports surfaced about financial troubles during filming. Apparently, backers pulled out, leaving the cast and crew unpaid. Lewis even pushed for payment for himself and his fellow actors.
The venue posted on Facebook, expressing their frustration: “We’ve been robbed.” They shared how exciting it was at first, but after long hours and extra work, they still haven’t seen a dime.
Neil Johnson, the volunteer venue manager, mentioned hearing about the production’s money issues and saw some crew members not getting paid. He’s been trying to reach out to the production companies for answers.
They claimed a new backer was supposed to come through with funds, but the venue is still waiting. Neil pointed out that their utility bills keep piling up, and they lost income when they had to close for filming.
He admitted he didn’t charge for some of the time they were closed, thinking they had a solid agreement. The venue, which has been around since 1904, is a not-for-profit space for live music and events.
Neil reflected on the situation, saying it feels like a repeat of a past break-in that cost them £2,000. “I feel like we’ve been mugged, and the worst part is we invited them in,” he said.
Two & Two Pictures has been contacted for a response, but the venue is still left in the lurch.
