Weymouth Beach will be closed from February 10th to 13th for sand re-leveling after Storm Herminia, ensuring safety and preparing for the visitor season.
Hey, guess what’s happening in Weymouth? The town council is closing part of the beach.
The area near the Pavilion and Jubilee Clock is affected. Workers need to use heavy machines there. They want to keep everyone safe during the work.
It will be closed from February 10th to February 13th. They want to re-level the sand. This makes walking on the beach much safer.
The beach should reopen on Thursday at 7 PM. The work will be all done by then.
They do this work every year before it gets busy. Winter weather moves the beach sand around. High tides do this too.
This work helps the beach recover from all that. It gets it ready for the busy season. Kiosks and other attractions open then. They need a smooth beach to operate.
Storm Herminia made a big sand ledge last week! The strong winds moved the sand up the shore. An easterly storm hit the Pavilion wall.
This created a backwash effect. The storm pushes sand against the opposing force. This pushed the sand towards the wall.
Sandbanks usually disappear on their own. Sometimes they need a little help though.
The council will put up signs. These will tell people about the beach closure. They said sorry for the inconvenience.
