Weymouth’s inaugural awards night recognized local businesses for their creativity and community spirit, highlighting their festive window displays and themed events.
Weymouth: We Are Weymouth, the town’s Business Improvement District, just held its first annual awards night to celebrate local businesses. It was a fun event that really showcased the hard work and creativity of the community.
Back in December, they ran a Christmas window competition where 31 businesses turned their storefronts into a winter wonderland. It was a month-long event, and the public got to vote for their favorite displays.
The winner? The Margaret Green Rescue charity shop! They really knocked it out of the park. Dry Dock, the alcohol-free pub, came in second, and Nouveau Tattoo and Aesthetics took third place.
Diana McKendrick from the charity shop was over the moon about the win. She said it was a total surprise and that they put in a ton of effort to create their display. It was all handmade, and they worked hard for weeks to get it just right.
Floral Couture also got some love, winning the judges’ award for best Christmas window display. Modern Barbers and Howley’s Toymaster were recognized too, which is pretty cool.
Throughout the year, Weymouth had some themed weekends that got everyone involved, like Pirate Weekend and Zombie Week. The winners of the best-dressed teams during these events were Tattoo Morningstar, Hay’s Travel, and Wafflicious.
They even gave a special mention to Reiker for being super involved in all the themed weekends. Plus, they recognized newcomers to the town, with 19 new businesses opening in 2024, including a coffee shop and a restaurant.
The Best Newcomer award went to Sticks and Bones, a gaming bar that opened in Hope Square. They really made a splash! The awards night also honored long-standing businesses for their contributions, which is a nice touch.
Businesses like Nothe Fort and The Palm House received special recognition for their outstanding service and support for the community. A spokesperson for We Are Weymouth praised them for going above and beyond, which is what it’s all about.
