The Royal Green Jackets Museum in Winchester is now The Rifleman’s Museum, aiming to enhance visitor experience and showcase riflemen history by 2025.
The museum wants to give visitors a better experience. It will show riflemen’s history and highlight their influence on The Rifles. The Rifles play a vital role in today’s army. The museum will stay open while they work, and people can still visit the existing galleries often.
Since 1989, the museum told the Royal Green Jackets story, including their past regiments. It covers new tactics and technology, like at Waterloo. Riflemen have always been unique in the army’s history.
The project will show The Rifles’ creation in 2007. It will show how 300 years shaped the regiment, including their look and training. Work is currently underway on this project, and construction inside begins in the summer.
The new gallery should open in 2025. It has new items and fun things for kids to do. There is flexible space for events, and temporary exhibits will also appear.
The museum website and social media will have updates. Check them for closure news before visiting.
Brigadier James Plastow said they are excited, adding that the new name is the first step. He wants to tell a story that should matter to visitors. He hopes the new gallery opens in September. He wants to tell the rifleman’s story, from the start to today, and even look into the future.
The museum has a new website too. You can learn about the museum on it with riflemen history and online items.
