An inquest has resumed into the tragic drowning of 11-year-old Kyra Hill at a Windsor leisure park
Windsor: So, there was this really sad incident at a water park where a girl named Kyra Hill drowned during a birthday party. She went missing for almost two hours before they found her. Just heartbreaking, right?
The park, Liquid Leisure, got hit with an £80,000 fine because they didn’t have proper safety measures in place. A judge said it created a “high-risk of death.” Can you believe that?
The coroner, Heidi Connor, mentioned that not every coroner would choose to resume the inquest, but she felt it was necessary. There are still some questions to answer, and she’s got to think about her powers too.
Kyra got into trouble in a swimming area, and emergency services were called at 3:55 PM. Sadly, she was found at 5:10 PM and rushed to the hospital, but it was too late.
The park offers activities like wake-boarding and swimming, but the beach area where Kyra drowned hasn’t reopened since the incident. They admitted to failing in their health and safety duties, which is just so tragic.
The council prosecuted them after the incident on August 6, 2022. The judge said it was easy for anyone to think the water was safe, but it wasn’t.
There were questions about how the day was planned by the parents who organized the trip. They thought Kyra would be safe where life jackets were required, but that wasn’t the case in the beach area.
The coroner said this planning issue is important but not really relevant to the main questions they need to answer. They’re still figuring out if they need a full inquest, which is set for May.
