A hotel guest went on a violent outburst at a fancy hotel near St Paul’s. The man stabbed three people with a wine glass after they stopped him from entering the bar.

Oliver Huckerby, 22, broke a glass and then stabbed a guard in the face with it. This happened at the Leonardo Royal hotel in London. He also stabbed a bar worker near the eye and hurt a second security guard who was calling the police for help.

People threw chairs and a lamp at Huckerby in an attempt to stop him. Blood and glass were all over the bar area. This was shared in court.

The victims now have permanent scars. One person needed treatment for a deep wound where his skull was visible.

Huckerby, a builder from Hertfordshire, told police he drank wine with his girlfriend and admitted to using cocaine. He admits to hurting the hotel staff but says he does not remember. He only recalls dinner and waking up in a hospital.

Huckerby has no prior convictions and claims he did not mean to cause harm during the outburst. He and his girlfriend checked into the hotel on December 16, 2023, paying £260 for a room for the night.

Daniel Lessie, a guard, was attacked first after denying Huckerby entry to the bar on the 7th floor, as Huckerby seemed drunk. A hostess saw Huckerby get angry and shout at the guard, face to face, before the guard asked him to leave peacefully.

Then, Huckerby smashed the glass and hit the guard’s face with great force, sending glass everywhere from the impact. Huckerby used the broken glass stem to stab Mr. Lessie again, close to his eye, causing him to bleed.

A waiter saw the injury and described seeing the skull through the wound on Mr. Lessie’s face. The hostess said Huckerby was uncontrolled. She heard him say he would kill the guard and described him as being enraged.

The bar area was covered in blood. The hostess was traumatized and confused and said she had never been so scared, stating, “He was out of control.”

After hurting Mr. Lessie, Huckerby attacked Khadar Said, who worked at the bar, stabbing him in the face. Mr. Said said Huckerby swung a glass at him. He thought it was a punch at first, but he realized it was the broken stem.

He remembers Huckerby’s “deadly stare”. Mr. Said thought he would be attacked again, so he grabbed a chair to defend himself. People saw Huckerby try to stab a guest and threw furniture to stop him, desperate to end the attacks.

Marcel Seaka, another guard, was a victim. He called the police about the stabbings, and then Huckerby quickly attacked him as well. While he was on the phone, Huckerby attacked. Seaka thought he was punched at the start, but seeing the blood, he knew it was glass.

“He struck me in the cheekbone area.” After attacking him, Huckerby ran past and continued his violent outburst quickly as recounted by Seaka, who said he will have a scar forever.

The hotel has a rooftop bar with nice views of St Paul’s Cathedral, and its the spot for events. Huckerby was arrested outside, covered in blood, and taken to the hospital for treatment, as he hurt his head and finger.

He became annoyed at the hospital and poured water on a police officer around 4 a.m. He admitted to causing harm to the three victims and the emergency worker.

Prosecutors argue he intended harm and want a more serious charge, which could mean more time. Huckerby had dinner in the hotel with his girlfriend and friends, planning on having more drinks there.

He remembers having a burger and said it was not good, then told officers he does not remember leaving. Huckerby said he was in a good mood, sitting at the table feeling relaxed, and then he was in the hospital, which happened fast.

Huckerby said he does not use cocaine often and doesn’t drink a lot. Then they told him he stabbed people. He said can’t recall past the restaurant. “I wish I could remember it all.” He denies causing harm with intent.

Judge Vanessa Baraitser is handling the trial. The trial is continuing rapidly.
