Shipley Town Council confirms that long-awaited market renovations will start soon
This week, Shipley Town Council announced that work will kick off in February. The project is set to wrap up by November. The renovations will be done in phases, so the Market Square can still host market days and City of Culture events.
The upgrades will remove the current fixed market stalls. Future markets will take place under a new central canopy with pop-up stalls. Plus, new green spaces and benches will replace the old stalls, creating more room for public events.
The car park will stay, but new electric charging points will be added. Contractors Aureos will handle the work, focusing on renewing surfacing, drainage, lighting, street furniture, and planting.
The Town Council will keep businesses informed about the project. Residents and visitors can expect regular updates on social media and can reach out for inquiries.
While the market renovations are finally happening, the reopening of Shipley’s public toilets has faced delays. Work was supposed to start in October, but contractor procurement has been slow.
The Town Council is committed to providing public toilets in Shipley Town Centre. At a recent Bradford Council meeting, concerns were raised about budget issues for the toilet project. Council leaders assured that they are reviewing funding options to keep the project on track.
