Wynne Evans has stepped back from the Strictly tour to prioritize his wellbeing after an incident at a launch event
Cardiff: Wynne Evans, the star from Strictly Come Dancing, has left the live tour. He decided to take a break to focus on his wellbeing. This decision was made with the BBC’s agreement.
Wynne, a 53-year-old Welsh opera singer, is known for his GoCompare ads. He recently apologized for an “inappropriate and unacceptable” comment made at the tour’s launch event.
He stated, “I’ll take some time out from my radio show and the Strictly Live tour.” He wants to prioritize his wellbeing and reflect on his actions.
Wynne expressed regret for the pain he caused and thanked his tour mates for their support. The tour began on January 17, and he was performing with Katya Jones, his dance partner from last year.
He missed shows in Glasgow due to an ankle injury, sharing photos of his bruises on Instagram. After the launch event, he apologized for his remark made to a woman.
He said, “My language was inappropriate and unacceptable, and I sincerely apologize.” The tour will continue without him, with 12 shows left, including performances in Liverpool.
Wynne is also taking a break from his weekday morning show on BBC Radio Wales. Broadcaster Robin Morgan is filling in for him during this time.
In October, Wynne and Katya had to apologize for a “joke” during a show. They called it a “running joke” after viewers noticed some awkward moments.
Strictly has now introduced chaperones during rehearsals for the upcoming series. Sky News has reached out to Wynne’s representatives and BBC Wales for comments.
